On the wettest and coldest day in January, I headed off to Kensington Olympia to check out the Adventure Travel Show. I love going to this show; it’s a good size and not too big, so you don’t end up getting lost (and tired) mooching around the stands. It’s a great show for travel inspiration and hearing about far flung destinations. It’s also a great people watching place too. It’s full of the adventurous folk all in search of the next best thing; from cycling holidays in Mongolia to climbing mountains in Kilimanjaro, you really can’t go wrong visiting this show and coming away with some handy and helpful travel tips.
The five stands that stood out for me the most were:
Mongolian International Bike Association
Who would have thought Mongolia is a destination on most peoples’ wish-list these days? This stunning destination is landlocked between China and Russia and is one of the last few places on the planet where nomadic life is still a living tradition. This established tour operator organises fully-supported, guided off-road motorcycle and mountain bike tours in the most beautiful and remote areas.
If trail running holidays are your thing, then check out www.costaricarace.com – they offer epic ultra trail races in Morocco and Costa Rica. Distances range from 6K up to 100K. The Moroccan race starts in the Atlas Mountains and finishes in the Sahara Desert and the Costa Rica trails take in impressive volcanoes and rainforests views. There’s still time to enter: races are in April and November 2018. Surely this is on your 2018 new fitness regime?
World Expeditions organises small group trekking and cycling adventure holidays to all seven continents including Everest Base Camp, the Inca Trail, Kilimanjaro and Russia. The tours are the perfect way to combine spectacular places, local interactions and light physical challenges whilst immersing yourself in history, culture and wildlife. http://www.worldexpeditions.co.uk/
Water bottles that filter 99.9% of contaminants are ideal for travellers, commuters and healthy people everywhere. The filters use 3-in-1 technology – originally developed for NASA – to remove harmful contaminants from your drinking water. They filter in excess of 99.9% of chemicals, like chlorine and fluoride, heavy metals like lead, as well as bacteria and viruses, while removing any bad taste or smell from the water. At £12.99 this is a bargain! https://www.watertogo.eu
